Yeah! It is Freestyle Saturday challenge over at Hiding In My Craft Room. I love the 5th Saturday as although I have to use an image if provided I can do my thing. When I saw the Playful Pup image from Sweet N Sassy I knew I wanted to do a mixed media canvas with it. One lucky person will win three digital images from Sweet N Sassy . Sweet N Sassy also carries clear stamps and dies.
For the canvas board I placed adhesive letters to form the word and then sponged on acrylic paint. When the paint was dry I removed the letters and outlined with a gel pen. I used a stencil with gold paste on part of the board.
I decided to experiment so the brown panel was created using gesso and white tissue paper. After I embedded crumpled tissue paper into the gesso I applied more gesso over the tissue paper. After it was dry I painted it with acrylic paint. The tissue paper extended over the scrap of card stock so I tore the tissue paper off leaving a ragged edge.
I took a scrap of muslin and coated it with a mixture of gesso and blue acrylic paint. I didn't mix the paint thoroughly with the gesso giving me the variations of colors.
The sun and butterfly were cut out of a scrap. I painted the sun with glitter glue an did the dots on the butterfly with glitter glue.
The playful pup image was printed on patty paper. Then colored with pencils and cut out. I used my Creative Station machine to adhere adhesive.
I took a scrap of burlap and painted it with acrylic paint for the grass. When the paint was dry I stitched it on the fabric and then stitched on flower beads that were in my stash. The gesso mixture made the fabric stiff so it was difficult to sew on it.
I brushed mod podge with a brush over the brown panel and then attached the fabric panel. Mod podge since I don't have gel medium was also used to adhere the panel to the canvas.
Thank you for stopping by and do come again. Wishing you Happy Frugal Crafting till we meet again!
